In this Ted Talk, Monica Lewinsky tells us about her time in the spotlight for something very embarrassing to her. Lewinsky is famous for her affair with president at the time Bill Clinton. She has now moved on from the incident and has published an article in the Vanity Fair.
This incident can be related to a character in The Crucible, Abigail Williams because she caused mass hysteria in the town, just like Monica when the affair became public. Instead of facing the consequences of her actions, Abigail ran off to another town. She left the people to deal with her destruction. The person she affected the most was John Proctor. She accused Elizabeth, his wife, of witchcraft so she could be with him. In doing so, John got himself in the accusations which then lead to his hanging. Abigail never wanted John to die. For her, the whole purpose of making up the “witches” was so she could be with John. Abigail destroyed the whole town of Salem causing residents to perish. Monica Lewinsky didn’t cause people to die, however she did leave a mark on future presidencies. |
